Find out everything you want to know about them!
Our love for the Lagotto Romagnolo breed began in Berlin when we bought our first Lagotto Tinchy. We had many breeds during our lifetime, but Tinchy captivates us completely with his character like no other breed so far, so we decide to take another Lagotto this time male. After two months of looking for the perfect boyfriend for our Tinchy, we decide to go to Italy to get a boy named Callisto. We decide to move from Berlin to Althüttendort in Brandenburg because we wanted to spend as much time with them in nature, and Brandenburg has beautiful forests and a very large number of lakes.
Immediately after the move, the sweet problems with Callisto started! We were walking in the woods and suddenly he started sniffing, wagging his tail and then digging and he came up to us and dropped a black summer truffle a little smaller than a tennis ball!
Extracting truffles in Germany is prohibited by law, and we want to extract them legally, so within two weeks we decide on a move that was not easy at all! We are packing our suitcases and our Lagotto, and we are moving from Germany to Croatia, where the search for truffles is allowed! In Croatia, we have chosen the perfect location – Geo Park Papuk, which is under UNESCO protection and rich in truffles! We are located on a beautiful property of 14000 m2 where our Lagotti have all the freedom of this world. And after moving, we are expanding our Lagotto family!
With the beautiful nature where they stay during the day, we have built our dogs the most modern facilities for sleeping! Our dogs have their own bathroom, space heating, pvc carpentry and doors, epoxy resin floors, house made of wall panels, etc …. we could talk endlessly about our Lagotti, and you if you want to talk about them feel free to contact us.
Currently, we have available puppies for you! For any more info, please feel free to contact us!
We do hunting and extraction of truffles for fun only! We do not sell them. If you are interested, we can train your Lagotto so he can do hunting and extraction of truffles.
We cooperate with many companies that are offering dog transport services and we have satisfied customers all around the world. If you are too far away to come in personal and pick up your Lagotto on your own, we are at your disposal to find a van or air transport for your Lagotto.
The Lagotto Romagnolo is a relatively new breed recognized by the FCl in 1995. Lagotto is a dog of hunting genes and has been used as a hunting dog for aquatic game in the wetlands of the province of Romagna since the 16th century. After the wetlands dried up, the primary purpose of these dogs became the search for truffles and they are the only dogs in the world that specialize in this. Today, in addition to still being used to search for truffles, they have become popular around the world as pets, ie dogs for company and companionship. The main reason for their rapid spread is their mild and lively nature, and also the trait that makes them perfect domestic dogs is that they do not shed.
This breed originates from Italy, is classified in the 8th FCI group, 3rd section (water dogs). They are not subject to the innate traits exam or the working exam. They first appeared in the 16th century in the valleys of inland Italy, later spreading to almost all parts of the country and began to be used as truffle dogs.
They are becoming most represented in the provinces of Tuscany, Lombardy and Emilia Romagna, where, after all, there are the most truffles. With the recognition of the breed in 1995, Lagotti began to participate in all major European exhibitions, the first specimens were exported and the rapid development and breeding of this breed began throughout Europe, North America and Australia. Today, apart from Italy, they are most represented in Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Germany and England.
The Lagotto Romagnolo is a medium-sized dog. The ideal height for males is 46 cm, for females 43 cm, their weight is 12-15 kg. They come in almost all colors, monochrome, two-tone or tricolor. Illegal colors are completely black, black and white and gray. Their hair is curly, woolly in structure. Curls on all parts of the body should be of equal intensity, except on the head, chin and legs, where the hair is less curly. As already mentioned, they do not shed, so they need minimal care, ie occasional brushing so that the hair does not get tangled. They cut hair for exhibitions.
They are one of the few breeds where almost all types of bites are allowed: scissor, pincer and vice versa scissor (pre-bite). In terms of character, they are very lively, sociable, intelligent and obedient. They are used for agility, fly-ball, and in some countries they have also been used as guides for the blind. They learn very easily, they are excellent dogs for children and family life. They get along well with other dogs and animals and do not show any aggression. although they mostly live in houses and apartments, Lagotti like to go to nature, especially to the sea, rivers or lakes where their love for water is expressed.
They have no specific health problems.
